Vivaldi's Spring [Date: 2008 October 21 | Tag: Abe ] There were good days bad days and really bad ones. Abe repeated it often, but according to Desmond there were only "really, really bad days" and those now repeated by a couple of weeks. The Boureau was in turmoil since the dear professor was no longer there, now seemed to have reached the era of "yes sir" and "no sir", to obey and not think, think , and not act. Nonsense. Desmond thought.
He commanded a team of at least fifty people and although this had to report back to Manning if there was a demon who ran around in a museum by throwing visitors into the air and ask if he "can get into the action." Nonsense! Desmond had seen the war, had seen death and things that a wearing a tie - idiot would never understand in all his life, yet, ironically, had to submit to his will! . That morning they had arrived in time to stop a demon like a horrible angry bison to destroy Grand Central Terminal. Too bad that all the right wing was now completely destroyed, with dozens injured just because Manning had not yet had his coffee and then his neurons were still dormant to take a decision in time!
Desmond was so angry that wanted to break something betraying his mild temperament, but knew it was totally useless and seeking peace in the only place existing in that building, the library. Slamming the door even noticed the stereo was on or of the presence of someone in there with him. He collapsed on a chair and wearily rubbed his neck, thinking that it was not in this way that they would help the world, not like the Professor had involved him to see his vision of the world.
Maybe the Professor was wrong ... there was no way to repair the irreparable.

Holding up a webbed finger inquisitively, Abraham approached the very disgruntled looking Desmond. “You look terrible. Has something happened?” He asked, Chopin's Claire De Lune playing quietly in the background. It was true that the BPRD had been experiencing quite a lot more turbulence than normal, since the turn over in leadership, and the death of the professor. While the truth was often stated about the internal-problems of the agency, the honest fact about Desmond was that nearly everyone within the BPRD had known who he was, if only because of his work ethic. He seemed the type of superior whom still had his moral's in tact, which was important for a leader.
The temperament and emotions that Abraham's empathic abilities had picked up off of Desmond on the other hand were quite worrisome. The man was a hard worker, whom seemed quite angry. Abraham walked closer, and took a seat beside his colleague. “Care to talk about it?” He asked hesitantly. He didn't want to seem pushy, but empathic as he was he always worried about those near him. He had a lot of respect for most of his colleagues, and it was a great part of him to look out for their well being.
The problem was, when his colleagues were angry or upset there was little to no way of figuring out what was bothering them without touching them and reading them telepathically, which was something he avoided for the most part. Out of respect for his co-workers privacy, after all everyone was entitled to a private life. There was a lot of friction within the bureau and seemingly quite a lot of stress being put on all of the coordinators and specialists within the agency, however this was the first time Abraham had seen the man in such an uproar.

Desmond rubbed the eyes with a hand when he realized of Abe's presence and with a look of understanding sighed by wearily abandoning his back on the chair "The usual. I'm watching the show collapse day after day. Seems to be ended in a bloody circus! Manning is near to give us prizes like a bone when we succeed in something, that's all we needed!"Desmond then narrowed his eyes trying to calm his outburst and raised his hand to apologize before his friend " Do not mind, my friend I'm just tired "he said, trying to calm down and angry with himself for the loss of control.
Before Abe's request, Desmond clenched his jaw as it usually did when look annoyed to be a problem for the others or look like one who had one but with a tired sigh the man thought that wasn't so bad to talk about it rather than to brood over, after all Abe was a good friend and maybe there was no better person with whom to let down the guard and stop to be an agent for a while. "When I came here, was told me that we could shed light on some of the mysteries of the world and of life itself. Helping to offset the balance and help ... it seems to me that we are slipping into the abyss Abe, I do not know how long I can hold out ... you know I'm not so " the strong hands joined to cross their fingers when thoughtfully put his elbows on the knees . "I've never ran before what I'm but this was not what I need. ... When the professor called me the first time, seemed to have realized that I was looking for my place ... now what we have, Abe? Orders? money or a place to stay?. It was not what I wanted "
He had never spoken of ho had joined to the Boureau, perhaps some even knew some of the kind of gift that afflicted him for years, but Abe at least spared the embarrassing moments or too difficult due to the fact that if he wanted, he could know anything and Desmond very much appreciated the fact that his friend would understand at once without too much preamble. "Have you changed type today?" jokingly said, listening to music that echoed around the room.

Abraham watched the man empathetically, one feeling that was easy to identify in the life of the BPRD was stress. Listening attentively, Abe tilted his head over his left shoulder, his eyes not leaving Desmond's. From the sound of it his team was struggling, which was not a surprise. Since the passing of the late professor Broom, many within the BPRD were drowning in their work. Everything that was usually orderly within the agency had seemed to fade into becoming distant memories. Abraham worried for his friend. It was to be expected that one would feel such emotions, especially when working in a high stress environment, but it seemed to Abraham that Desmond needed a cool down.
“I do not mind, it is normal for one to feel at a loss, angered, or disappointed after a hard day. After all, here at the BPRD we have good days, bad days, and sometimes really bad days.” Abe laid a hand on Desmond's shoulder, eyes roaming over the library, the song in the background changing to Fur Elise. As the song changed, Abraham noticed a shift upon Desmond's face. Tilting his head, instead over his right shoulder, he lifted a long webbed finger in response to Desmond's statement. “You can.” Abraham said simply. “Think of all that you've done all ready. You have done things no one else can do, things that I know I cannot do. You lead successful operations, and are a very level-headed man.” Abraham complimented, though the rest of the mans words had nearly rendered Abe speechless. “It's not what any of us wanted.” Abe felt for his colleague and squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. “Just remember, we're a team here, when life gives you lemons, we will all help you make lemonade.”
Abraham shook his head. “I haven't changed the music yet, but Miss McCann has recommended me to some more modern style music if you care to join me for a listen.” He offered pleasantly. It seemed that he was not the only one in need of distraction. “Do you have a music of preference?” Abraham asked in attempt to lighten his friends mood.

The man looked up his blue eyes and smiled at his friend to thank for his kindness. Of course in those days everyone had problems and appreciated the fact that he lost a little of his time to listen his. He knew that his friend would have said the sentence that was already become a classic. He did not like, however, seem whiny and spoke clearly as Abe decided it was time to change music track "Maybe not, but I didn't came here for glory or to prove that I could do things that others couldn't and then Abe, I suggest you to not underestimate yourself. You are important here and you are important for many don't forget that, honestly if people like you leave this place I am confident that everything would fall and soon, "he said sincerely, Desmond was not an easy- lure type " I was a soldier and now an agent, for me it's different. My presence here had a purpose until the objective was to protect and serve, it seems to me that here we have only to obey to the second part of the promise done years ago."he said contemptuously thinking of having to bear many other orders during the day.
Desmond chuckled "When did you become so free and easy with humor? You make me think that I missed something during the recent weeks" frowning surprised but obviously amused by Abe's words. "However" he said after "I could never forget that. One of the many reasons why I do not take a final decision ..." Desmond was careful to pronounce the last words before continue the sentence "is just for you, the guys ... and Nadia. God, how can I leave her alone here? ... If I think it was me to have brought her here. " after a moment of silence he looked at Abe's wide eyes and smiled " If something happens to me...anything. Can you do me a favor and keep an eye on her? is young but is smart and the only thing that I've"without losing too much time with a melodramatic situation he turned immediately to look at the piles of books and antique objects stored anywhere. Also saw the colored cube with whom he had often seen Abe lose his unbreakable composure, was one of the rare occasions when he had seen it happen.
"She has recom ... what? Oh my" denying his head in disbelief but then he relaxed in a quiet sigh thinking that Abe just had a very good idea. "Music? I think to be more outdated and more than what Miss McCann would tolerate " as he took a bunch of CD's and looking at the covers was surprised to find a copy of the Eels's album .

Abraham would smile if his face would allow, again annoyed by the restriction of expression, Abraham followed Desmond to join him at the music collection. He was eying a cover of an Eel's album, Abraham watched curious to know what sort of music appealed to Desmond. One could tell much based upon music taste alone. “I suggest that you do not underestimate yourself either.” Abe advised, his usual forefinger lifted in the air. “You are equally as important, you know...” Abe began, feeling an encouraging lecture burning the tip of his tongue. “Your presence still has a purpose, and so do you. Purpose is a sense of identity that we learn though time, you'll see Desmond. I would try not to dwell on it.” Abraham was slightly confused by Desmond's statement. Courtesy of his high intelligence and ability to understand others, he gradually was able to comprehend Desmond's words. “Is it really so different now than it once was? You're still an agent, and you still protect others. You can always appeal to the chain of command and ask for a new supervisor...” Abe suggested. “Though, I suspect Manning is trying to appeal to his superiors as well.”
"When did you become so free and easy with humor? You make me think that I missed something during the recent weeks"
Running a finger over the ledge of one of the podiums, Abraham shrugged graciously. “I've always had a sense of humor. It is simply that there is a time to use it, and a time not to. As a field agent, I fear my sense of humor has deteriorated over the years... Does this surprise you?” He wondered. Thinking about it, he wondered if all of the agents in the bureau thought of him as a serious man-fish with no sense of wit or humor. “Nadia would be very upset if you left, Desmond. She would not be the only one, I do not believe. A lot of people look up to you.” Surprised by the mans next request, his eyes would have revealed how off his mark he was, were they capable. “I will do my best, but for the sake of all of us, do try not to let anything happen to you.” Abraham stated suddenly concerned.
"Music? I think to be more outdated and more than what Miss McCann would tolerate
“Then we have nothing to worry about, do you prefer CD or vinyl?” Abraham asked, still wondering what the selection would be. “If you don't mind, I could use a breath of fresh water, are you opposed if I return to my tank? We can still communicate of course.” He stated, matter of fact.

Desmond turned to look at him and just smiled politely denying his head, Abe was always able to see the positive side in everything. He had never met anyone so smart or wise pity that he, like Red and Liz , could not have a normal life. Desmond did not believe in the meaning of the word normal, there was no accurate way to describe it but the fact of having to live confined in a tank full of water or in a room full of televisions sets was not an easy life. The Government had no confidence in the Boureau's members but now no one had any confidence in anything in those times and lock them behind walls wanted to appear like a security procedure but according to Desmond was just an idiocy. "Manning?. Yes, the old Manning is trying to ingratiate himself with the votes of anyone, I do not know if will be able to hold the charge, only time can tell"
Desmond just stiffened and shut his mind, for Abe was easy to read his thoughts but there were things that was better not to be said and only for Abe's or anyone else own good. In fact, there was a reason for his mood , it was usually in good even when everything went to pieces but since had that meet .... Desmond had gone several times at the troll market to talk with his informants and had received only bad news. There was a riot in progress and he was informed, if he had warned people like Manning or any government idiot they would have razed the place and left without a home many people already forced into hiding in a filthy place and eventually .... he would have right .. "It's nothing Abe, old friend. ... I'm a grumpy old man I'm aging too , you know?" winking with a playful smile on his handsome face.
Friendly patted his shoulder " Hey, it is supposed to be me the sad one , not you! C'mon man...! "then relaxed his shoulders in a sigh, "Yeah I know ... but in the coming days. .. there are things that I've to do Abe .. and I'll feel more comfortable if I know there is someone to watch over her. She is young and still can not control her powers, I'd never abandon her so as I'd never abandon none of you, ever "even though he was obviously forced to smile.
Desmond thinned his eyes thoughtfully then snapped his fingers "Vinyl!" said then got up and motioned to move towards the tank "Sure" he said approaching the huge glass that allowed him to watch the glare of the water, the neon light colored everything in a soft blue light. "I'll be away for a while Abe" he said then reached into his pocket, hoping that his friend wasn't going to worry too much" but just for a few days .." Desmond had to go back to that place, had to understand before it was too late.

“Oh, dear...” Was all Abe was able to say for a moment. Yes, it was true that Manning was being pressured by his peers. They felt he was not performing his duties well enough, and had time and time again threatened to send more supervisors to the B.P.R.D.. Which was not something anyone in the bureau was pleased about, for several reasons. Manning would start brown-nosing to higher levels, and Red would become more difficult, to say the least. “Thomas is just trying to live up to the ridiculously high standards that his supervisors have set for him, and sometimes he loses sight of what is important. Trust me... It is just a phase... I assure you...” It seemed as though something else was weighing on Mr. Alucard's mind this evening as well. His body language was too rigid to be relaxed, and there was something quite foreboding about the B.P.R.D. as of late, that feeling that there was a storm coming.
His friends rigidness concerned Abe, although Desmond assured him it was nothing with a playful smile and a wink, Abe was certain there was something. Desmond might believe himself to be a grumpy old man, though Abe preferred the perspective of: you're only as old as you are at heart. That logic would make Desmond a bit younger, at least in Abe's eyes. “If you would allow my input, I would advise taking a week or two to yourself to calm the nerves... Maybe take Nadia with you for a brief vacation. Manning can't possibly deny you that after everything you've done.” Abe reconsidered his words before carefully adding to them. “He might try to deny you a break from work, word has it that his supervisors are giving him a really hard time about Red again, but I don't think he'd be able to keep you here if you need a vacation.” Abe corrected.
With a friendly pat on the shoulder, the man started an attempt to be reassuring. It was in moments like these when Abe was the most grateful that he could not express himself with his face. Desmond mentioned that there were obligations he needed to tend to, which of course triggered a chain of thoughts in Abe's mind. “What do you have to do, if you don't mind my asking?” He wondered. “I give you my word, Mr. Alucard, I will keep an eye on her. I will do my best to keep any harm from befalls her in your absence. “I also promise you that she will learn in time, those powers of hers... She'll grow into them.”
For a moment Abe was distracted by Desmond's exclamation about the vintage “Vinyll”s shelved throughout the room with other various gadgets Abe had collected throughout the years. “You will come back, won't you? Something about this particular situation. “Where are you going, do you have authorization or clearance? Is Manning just letting you go for a few days?” A million questions invaded his mind but he bit his tongue. Desmond would have to chose his own path in life, even if it meant these mystery rendezvous.

Desmond smiled and shrugged, "Maybe, why not ? ..." was not true, couln't take Nadia with him. He wanted but could not risk to see her in danger and in such big one, she was safer there with Abe. In fact, a holiday was not so bad idea, too bad that was not the right time. He hated to can't clearly talk with Abe about what was going to do but if succeeded, he might have prevented his friend to be involved in a real disaster. Desmond had assessed for days whether to act alone was a good idea but in the end was the only solution.
Watched him float in the water tank with hypnotic movements like a leaf in the wind , Desmond put his hand in a pocket and looked at the tank "Nothing important dear friend, but I need me to do that, better not to postpone things until we have time , isn't so? " nothing important was not the right thing to say. After the meeting with the prince initially thought it was just an isolated case, a coincidence but in the end he realized that there was something much bigger and far more dangerous behind everything. Desmond was often involved in negotiations or peaceful inspections down at the troll market, often in the role of diplomat knowing so most of the society of that place and among his friends there was a large number of informants among the elves, trolls and other creatures. It was not the first time that Desmond offered his help to the local community for a sense of friendship or in top secret missions and when one of his informants had warned him that there were rumors of a possible revolt by one of the noblest members of the Bethmoora clan, then Desmond had begun to investigate and concerns started from there ... .
The idea of a vacation that was proposing to Abe was nothing but an attempt to discover more about the prince intentions and if lucky to know where he lived, would have played the last chance appeal to his clemency if necessary but felt that wasn't going to be useful, that boy was full of hatred and resentment and Desmond knew how he felt and what it meant ..
Desmond realized that had lost in thought for a moment and when Abe's voice slipped again in his head blinked and slightly shook head smiling "Sure I'll back! where should I go? I still like this place and I'm sure Manning would miss me"chuckled tried to be vague" Yes, although I had to sign the usual two hundred papers I received permission yesterday and although there are some rookies straight out of 'the Academy to govern the rest of us they still remember about the times where I saved their ass , then ... " chuckled still watching his friend with a kind smile, just sorry in have to lie that way but hoped that one day he would forgive him. It was also for his own good. "You solved then that cube?" Looking around saw it on a desk and took it between his fingers then laughed "You want me to do it?" teased him a bit knowing was too fond of the idea to solve the riddle by himself.
