Petite with a pretty, heart-shaped visage, black hair and blue eyes, Anastasia has all the looks that would make her a very pretty young woman. However, like a flower growing in poor or contaminated soil, her appearance has suffered from her errant behaviour and drug consumption. She is pale and ematiated, and her eyes seem to be permanently bloodshot (her right eye has a nasty red blotch in it). She also looks constantly exhausted, and her hair is dry and unkempt.
She also has scars on her arms where she used syringes on a regular basis and has a slightly mottled spot on her left arm where one such injection spot became infected and almost formed an abscess. She usually wears very scruffy clothes : ripped jeans, old combat boots so scuffed they look like they’ve been through the roughest parts of the globe, and dirty old t-shirts or tank tops. She keeps her hair short, and she also has many facial piercings : her tongue and left eyebrow to be exact.

Anastasia is chaotic and impulsive. She has a stubborn and destructive temperament somewhat inclined to depression and apathy, punctuated by surges of life and energy. In that respect, Anastasia is like a broken motor : struggling most of the way but hiccoughing brutally every now and then in sudden surges of old life. She is also addicted to several kinds of drugs, and due to her being mostly confined to the ascetic and drug-free environment of the Bureau, often experiences some very nasty withdrawal symptoms such as accute paranoia, aggressivity and physical sickness.
She is also very anarchistic, and tends to show little to no respect to authority. She prefers to act alone and on her judgement, and to earn her respect one would need to make tremendous efforts to appear worthy of said respect in her eyes. Her time spent doing drugs and wandering the streets has also « deconstructed » any social behaviour she might have had, which all in all, makes her deeply antisocial and often prone to exuberant or violent behaviour. She cares little for grand moral or philosophical concepts and is deeply cynical in her conduct, expressing scepticism whenever possible as well as showing a great deal of ill will whenever effort is involved.
Despite this, Anastasia still has a strong human side hidden beneath the nasty behaviour and psychological scarring. She still has a spark of caring behaviour in there, and it shows from time to time, albeit rarely. Re-acquiring normal social skills and behaviour is all part of her rehabilitation program.

Anastasia is the daughter of a Russian expatriate and a Canadian woman, the former having emigrated to Canada in the late eighties. She had a fairly pleasant childhood, as her parents were both affectionate and they never had any financial troubles. In a way, Anastasia grew up a spoilt child with no knowledge of the fear of the future or material concerns. She was to go to the best schools and follow the best courses and finally get one of the best jobs. She was a golden girl with a future full of brilliance.
And then, her mother was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. She lasted three years before succumbing, and her death had a terrible impact on her husband, who took to drinking heavily after work. This in turn affected his health and work, and things started to fall apart back home. Anastasia, then 13 years old, was increasingly left to her own devices. Without parental guidance, her school grades plummeting and her grief over her mother's untimely death still strong, she fell in with a bad crowd and was soon introduced to the illusory and cruel world of drug-fuelled escapism.
She started to spend more and more time away from home, roaming the streets in a drug and alcohol induced daze. Marijuana, crystal meth, cocaine and heroine all had their turns in her mind and organism, and took heavy tolls on her young mind. Life for Anastasia quickly became a vague road paved with suffering, anguish, anger and solitude while her father continued on the road to perdition. Despite both abusing dangerous substances, Anastasia’s father was the first to go, as one night he downed several bottles of Scotch and succumbed to alcohol poisoning. At the time of her father’s death, Anastasia, now 17 years old, was high as a kite on heroin in a filthy downtown warehouse used as a squat by tramps and junkies. It took five weeks for the police to find her and get her out of the streets.
She was put into temporary custody, a period during which her legal guardian, as appointed by her father and mother, was located and contacted. It was also during that period that her abilities first manifested in a chaotic and frightening manner. Once her legal guardian had accepted the new task of raising the errant young woman, Anastasia was sent packing to the United States and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence, much to her displeasure.
