First of all, yes you can have powerful characters, but they do need to have drawbacks equal to their abilities. For example, do not make a character that can raise the dead and his only drawback is a bloody nose. (And no, we don't allow necromancing here.)
Here's the thing to keep in mind when choosing your powers: Does it fit the Hellboy theme? Hellboy is quite a lot different from Marvel DC, this is because Hellboy is a production of Dark Horse Comics. For those unfamiliar with Hellboy that wish to join, simply bear in mind that the abilities should not involve magic, unless you are a demon (See explanation below), or unless it is partial to your race - Gorgon = Gorgon Stare, Werewolf = Shifting etc. That's about as close to magic as it gets in this universe. I will be wiling to work with you or hear your ideas - If you have a way to make the site better, even as a guest, by all means feel free to contact me. (I'm Nuala on site).
That being said, here is the basic outline for what is expected for character abilities:
ANGEL POWER EXPLANATION: Angels, have heightened senses,the natural ability to heal rapidly, strong protective abilities such as healing their allies, and immunity to human weapons. They are weak to darkness, and offensive supernatural abilities will not be granted to this class.
DEMON POWER EXPLANATION: Demons have heightened senses, the natural ability to heal rapidly, immunity to darkness, and immunity to human weapons. They are weak to lightness, and offensive supernatural abilities will be granted to this class. After all, demons are creatures of destruction, are they not?
ELVES POWER EXPLANATION: Elves are leaders among the mythical people, and are greatly in tune with their environment. They often have the ability to influence elements on a high level. They are naturally immune to elemental wear or damage, and can use the elements to their benefit. Such as summoning wind, or rain. While immune to fire, it cannot be called forth. They are skilled in combat, but are weak to human weapons. Only Earth & Water Based Supernatural abilities will be allowed.
HALF ELF POWER EXPLANATION: Half-Elves sometimes experience heightened empathy, and are in tune with their environment. They can influence the elements on small levels, such as creating humidity changes, small breezes, or restoring life to wilting plants. Supernatural abilities past small earthly channellings will not be granted.
MYTHICALS POWER EXPLANATION: The mythical abilities vary from creature to creature. Some creatures have natural abilities, such as a gorgons stare, or a werewolf's curse. We will grant traditional supernatural abilities to mythical creatures, depending on their race, but please bear in mind, in order to keep some form of balance we'd appreciate it if you play a human at some point as well.
HUMAN POWER EXPLANATION: Humans are no longer granted supernatural powers. Humans can only have power for a short-term if they are possessed by something otherworldly, or have made a deal with the devil so to speak. They cannot keep these powers for long durations. If you desire a character with special abilities, please choose another race. For the sake of balance though, if you play a mythical, please consider playing a human as well. Humans on the other hand, are the best with technology and science.
